You cannot live without a liver. It is one of the major organs of the body. The liver performs multiple crucial functions.

The liver has essential roles in digestion, metabolism and detoxification. It is a complex organ with multiple tasks for keeping you living, working as part of a team of organs.

The liver supports digestion by creating and secreting bile for emulsification of fat. The bile and buffering minerals move from the liver to the gall bladder for storage and release into the small intestine for digestion. Enzymes and other important protein compounds are also prepared and released by the liver and pancreas.

In addition, the liver serves as a reservoir and recycling center for minerals and other nutrients and metabolites. It also controls the metabolism of nutrient compounds (including alcohols), forms protein compounds for various needs, including enzymes and hormones, and breaks down toxins in the blood.

The liver is the body's workhorse organ. Its involvement in various metabolic functions makes it susceptible to stressors. One of its crucial jobs is to constantly remove toxins from the bloodstream.

Both the liver and the kidneys have their share of stress in filtering out toxins from the blood. Public poisons and EMF’s can harm and impair the liver and other organs.

With the tremendous amount of pollutants from diet and the environment, the liver can become overwhelmed, allowing toxins to slip through and build up in the body. This can cause or worsen several degenerative diseases.

Gradually, the liver may begin to wear out, letting illness develop that can detract from the enjoyment of life.

The liver needs periodic help with an herbal cleanser and nutritional support. At the same time excessive toxic wastes need to be removed from the blood and tissues and avoided in the future.

Protecting the liver and other key organs is critical. Routine natural health practices, including periodic detoxification, nutritious supplements, exercise, relaxation and a positive attitude, are essential in maintaining these crucial organs for good health.

There are cleansing herbs that help clean house thoroughly, in conjunction with healthy eating.

Liver Cleanse

Environmental pollutants and dietary toxins can build up in the body, slowing the body’s natural cleansing processes. The body needs ongoing support to the organs that may play roles in detoxification: the liver, kidneys, lungs, bowels and skin.

Start with a cleansing diet of mostly vegetable salads, fresh fruits and raw juices for several days.

Then do a "Liver - Gall Bladder Flush" using liquid magnesium, organic extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

Herbs can be used to cleanse, detoxify, nourish, and provide support to the liver, gall bladder and gastrointestinal tract. These can be taken leading up to the "flush" and afterward for several weeks to a few months.

These procedures help the liver remove toxins. Proceed slowly if the liver is saturated with toxins.

Many herbs can provide helpful nutritional support to the liver and gallbladder, promote cleansing and detoxification and support digestive function.

Common herbs used for this include beets, birch leaves, blessed thistle, burdock root, dandelion root, gentian root, golden rod, horsetail, milk thistle, parsley and yellow dock root.

Cleansing the colon is an essential part of detoxification of the liver and the body as a whole. Cascara sagrada bark and buckthorn bark help this main eliminative channel rid the body of toxins being released and helps to cleanse the intestines of fecal matter. In addition, fenugreek helps loosen and dissolve intestinal mucus, and marshmallow root helps the body remove this mucus.

Sarsaparilla root, red clover flowers, yellow dock root, dandelion root, burdock root, Echinacea purpurea root, yarrow, Oregon grape root and Pau D'Arco, a tree bark from South America, are well-known promoters of the natural blood purification process.

The urinary system can be stressed in the cleansing process. Horsetail, parsley and uva ursi are good herbs for urinary support.

NOTE: Cascara sagrada and buckthorn have a laxative effect. See your health care provider prior to use if: pregnant or nursing, any medical condition exists, or when taking any medication. Do not use if diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain are present or develop. Chronic diarrhea can result in serious illness.
